Slide shows had their beginnings in the 1600s, when hand-painted images on glass were first projected onto a wall with a “magic lantern”. “Magic lantern shows” continued to have a place among commercial public amusements even after the coming of projected “moving pictures”. – Wikipedia
There was a time when family & friend gatherings might have included the following question, “Who wants to see slides from last year’s summer vacation?” And then someone would break out the trusty Slide Projector. Home slideshows were a common phenomenon in middle-class American households in the 50s and 60s (and even through the 70s). Even today, reunions and weddings and birthday parties all over the world still show old photographs presented to music or a song.
During this crazy time of social distancing and quarantine it’s virtually impossible for me to create NEW art (since my art – photography & film – requires collaboration with other people). So I decided to “take something old and make it new again”. Presenting: “Magic Lantern Shows” i.e. Good old-fashion SLIDESHOWS. And to make these slideshows unique, they will incorporate previously unreleased images (never before seen or presented in a Gallery). I’m excited about these new video image presentations. And, I am surprised that I haven’t been making them all along.
P.S. If there is a model or photoshoot that you feel might make a good SLIDESHOW, please share in the comment section below. Thanks! 🙂
